Without the slightest bit of business experience, he dictates that the record companies should simply drop their prices to ten cents a track, and their problems with illegal downloading will be solved. Not only that, he implies the record executives (people who run firms like EMI) are clueless idiots who don't know what is happening to their own industry. They DO know- and that is the problem. Here's another gem of an opinion: ""The record companies' business has been declining for half a decade. Is this about piracy, or is this about a failed business model? Could it be that if the labels focused on signing and promoting artists of value, who were in it for the long haul, their business would INCREASE??" Just think folks! A whole "half a decade!" Apparently, Lefsetz yearns for the golden age of music that gave us the Archies, the "Bosstown Sound" and other examples of artistic perfection. Of course, they also gave us people like Ahmet Ertegun, Quincy Jones and and a few other worthies, but who cares? Lefsetz fancies himself an arbiter of opinion and true insight. He is a vulgar moron, and a has been. But like the music industry he complains about, all you need today is website and a song. Let him get a regular job.
